Government has launched a Labour Exchange Programme designed to directly link job seekers with employers and address the growing challenge of unemployment in Ghana.

The programme was officially launched in Accra, bringing together policymakers, labour unions, industry players, and development partners.
Officials said the initiative will function as a national database and matching platform where the skills of job seekers are aligned with available vacancies in both the public and private sectors.
According to them, the system will also provide career counseling, skills training, and support for businesses seeking qualified personnel.
Speaking at the launch, stakeholders noted that many young Ghanaians struggle to find jobs not because opportunities don’t exist, but because of poor linkage between talent and industry needs.
The Labour Exchange Programme is expected to leverage technology to track job openings, applicant profiles, and recruitment trends in real time. Authorities say this will improve efficiency in hiring and reduce the time it takes for people to secure decent work.
Labour experts who attended the event described the programme as a step in the right direction. They urged government to ensure proper implementation, strong private sector participation, and continuous engagement with training institutions to make the system sustainable.
The launch forms part of government’s broader strategy to create jobs, enhance workforce productivity, and build a labour market that responds to current economic demands.
