The stay for children battling cancer at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital is set to become more bearable following the establishment of a modern library at the hospital’s paediatric oncology unit.

The child-friendly library, fully furnished by Ashfoam Ghana, is a joint initiative between Ashfoam Cares, Lifeline for Childhood Cancer Ghana and the Ghana Library Authority.

It is designed to go beyond medical care, giving children a place to read, learn and play while undergoing treatment that often keeps them in hospital for months.

According to Ashfoam Ghana, the move is part of its commitment to supporting child health in the country.

The company’s Marketing and Communications Manager, Nana Yaw Ampem-Darko Antwi, said seeing children, some under three years, living with cancer is a difficult reality that called for action.

He said the provision of furniture for the library is only the first step, with plans underway to support the upkeep of the space and roll out a second phase of assistance to improve conditions at the unit.
The company noted it has over 40 years of operations in Ghana and continues to invest in community health projects.
For Lifeline for Childhood Cancer Ghana, the facility will help children reclaim part of the childhood that cancer interrupts.
The Executive Director, Akua Sarpong, said children on admission are often confined to beds and treatment routines. She said access to books and play helps reduce emotional stress and gives them something to look forward to each day.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Simona Ephraim Foundation, Mr. Larry Mensah thanked Ashfoam Ghana Limited for the kind gesture.
According to Mr. Mensah, the support will go a long way to strengthen the Foundation’s work of raising awareness, educating the public, and connecting sickle cell patients to a wider support community.
