St. Louis Senior High School has emerged as the overall winner of the 21st Annual Science and Makers’ Fair, beating more than 90 projects from schools across Ghana and abroad.

The Kumasi-based all-girls school clinched the top award with the “Akandifour Energy Meter,” a device designed to monitor household electricity use and allow remote control of appliances via mobile phone. The team said the innovation aims to reduce energy waste and help households cut costs.

Judges described the project as a practical solution to everyday energy challenges in Ghana. For their win, the students received gold medals, citations, and prizes including tablets.
The event, hosted by Galaxy International School, also marked the school’s 25th anniversary and served as the venue for the 2026 International Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics Olympiad. Thirty-seven projects were entered in the Olympiad category alone.
In the secondary section, the “Academic Performance Contagious Model” took first place, with projects on Hitler’s rise to power and a 2D platform challenge following. The primary division was led by a smart automatic plant watering system.
Exhibits on display included a working hydroelectric generator, cardboard elevator, DIY mini robot, and paper rocket launcher, highlighting the fair’s emphasis on hands-on problem solving.
Organisers said students from over 10 schools participated, with the goal of pushing young innovators to create practical solutions beyond the classroom. The win adds to St. Louis SHS’s growing reputation in national STEM competitions.
