The Electoral Commission (EC) is set to mount the voters’ exhibition exercise from today to next Tuesday, August 27, to enable voters to verify their details in the register for the December 7 l election.In an interview with the media, Mr Samuel Tetteh said the purpose of the exhibition exercise is to allow for prospective voters to verify their voter details such as name, sex, age, among others, as captured during the registration exercise and make requests for amendments or insertions where necessary,” a Deputy Chairperson of the EC in charge of Operations.
The EC had originally fixed August 1 to 7, 2024, for the exhibition exercise, but rescheduled it due to the mop-up limited registration exercise which took place from August 1 to August 3, 2024. Earlier, the EC had conducted a limited voters’ registration exercise from May 7 to May 27, 2024 and extended it by two additional days to make up for the network challenges experienced during the first two days of the registration exercise.Providing further details, Mr Tettey said the exhibition exercise would enable prospective voters to file for inclusion of omitted names, correction of voter details and object to names of unqualified voters on the register.
He said the exercise would also enable prospective voters to know their respective polling stations, where they will vote on election day and also help with the removal of names of deceased voters from the register.“This is to put the register in good shape devoid of minors, foreigners, the deceased and other clerical errors for the conduct of the December 7 general election,” he explained.
He, however, said if one checked his or her details electronically and errors were found, the individual had to go to the exhibition centre in person for the corrections to be effected. Mr Tettey urged all citizens to participate in the exhibition exercise to ensure their details were correctly recorded and confirm their eligibility to vote in the upcoming election.
Mr Tettey said prospective voters could also check their details electronically via short code *711*51# at the cost of 50 pesewas. Meanwhile, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) picked its copy of the voters’ register from the EC yesterday.
