A backing of CJ suspension

By Mavis Paintsil, Accra

According to the coalition, the action taken by President John Dramani Mahama was not politically motivated, and none of his actions suggest that he acted outside the constitution.at a press briefing held on Tuesday, May 6, General Secretary of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Awudu Ishaq, said that the suspension of the Chief Justice demonstrates that judicial officials must be held accountable for misconduct.

“The suspension of the Chief Justice is not a celebration of anyone’s downfall but a celebration of constitutionalism. President Mahama’s decision is not partisan but a renewal of faith in the rule of law,” he said.

The Coalition also criticised the “Save the Judiciary” demonstration led by the New Patriotic Party (NPP), calling it flawed and reflective of the party’s declining credibility.

“The much-publicised demonstration held yesterday was monumentally flawed and reflective of the sinking image of the New Patriotic Party. What a whole micro minority leader, Osahene Alexander Afenyo-Markin, did paints nothing but a clear picture of a group of people desperately trying to rebuild their tattered political ground,” the coalition added.

The group recommendations, including a constitutional amendment to Article 146 of the 1992 Constitution.

“We recommend that the initial determination of a prima facie case, even in the case of the Chief Justice, be conducted by an independent judicial body rather than the President in consultation with the Council of State. This will ensure greater impartiality,” they proposed.

The Third Force Alliance Ghana has declared it’s support for the suspension of Chief Justice Getrude Araba Esaaba Tokornon describing them are as lawful.
