Police arrest 12 suspects for looting in Tamale, causing damage to properties, PRO

Police arrest 12 suspects for looting in Tamale, causing damage to properties in Damango.

The incident occurred moments after the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, conceded defeat in the 2024 presidential election to the flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama.

The eye witnesses, said the youth wearing NDC- branded T. Shirt stormed the Assembly and damaged some property and carted food supplies reportedly intended for community distribution .

In Tamale incident, chaos erupted after some youth vandalised the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly premises and also looted food items from a warehouse.

The District Office of the Electoral Commission in Damango in the Savannah Region was set on fire over disagreements about the collation of the 2024 election results. The Electoral (EC) is in the process of collation.

The results for the constituency parliamentary and presidential elections, where the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Mr Samuel Abu Jinapor, is in the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP).

The Ghana Police Service arrested 12 suspects for looting and causing damage to properties in part of the parts of the country.

Preliminary investigations have established that the suspects have attacked and cause damage to some state properties including the ablaze of the Electoral Commission (EC) office in Damango in the Savannah Region, causing damage to dome residents (DEs) in some parts of the country and vandalizing of some collation centres.

Additionally, some of the suspects broke into School Feeding in the Project Warehouse in the Tamale in Northern Region and also made way with some items including foodstuffs.

Footages of the attacks, vandalism and looting have been obtained and have obtained and are been revived by a team of dedicated, investigators to get other perpetrators arrested to face justice.

The police urged the public to remain calm as police officers have all been strategically deployed to key locations with intensified patrols to maintain law and order.
