The operational capacity of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has been significantly strengthened following the handing over of new vehicles and equipment by government.
The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, presented the items to the Service at a ceremony held at the GNFS National Headquarters in Accra.
The package includes five buses, ten motorbikes, six Fotonl pickup trucks, five Nanni electric saloon cars, mobile phones and scanning devices for the implementation of the Automated Fire Compliance and Safety System (AFCAS).
The vehicles are expected to improve mobility of fire officers and ensure rapid response to fire outbreaks and other emergencies, while the AFCAS technology will transform how fire safety inspections and compliance monitoring are conducted.
Addressing the gathering, the Interior Minister said government is committed to retooling all security and emergency services to deliver on their mandate.
He emphasized that courage and professionalism must be matched with logistics.
“The effectiveness of fire personnel depends not only on their professionalism and courage, but also on access to modern equipment, reliable logistics and operational tools necessary to respond swiftly and effectively,” Mr Muntaka stated.
He said investing in the Fire Service is not an expense but an investment in public safety, resilience and sustainable development.
He therefore charged the leadership, management and personnel of the GNFS to ensure that the vehicles and equipment are “managed with the ultimate professionalism, maintained diligently and deployed responsibly for the purposes for which they were provided.”
He concluded with a call on the general public to adhere to fire safety regulations, create awareness and cooperate with fire officers when they are called to duty.
