Mr David Selassie Anthony, popularly known as De Accra Mayor or Dee Mayor, has officially declared his intention to contest the position of Deputy National Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at the National Congress slated for December 19, 2026.
In a declaration for immediate release on Thursday, October 15, 2026, Mr Anthony said his campaign is centred on grassroots mobilization and a stronger role for resource and logistics mobilization for effective delivery.
He said the decision followed broad consultations with party members, organizers and supporters across the regions, and that he is contesting to serve the structures that carry the party between elections.
Mr Anthony said the NDC’s strength has always been at the base.
“The strength of this party has never been at the top. It has always been in the constituencies,” he stated.
Three priorities for his tenure:
Grassroots Structures:Making Constituency and Regional organizing layers functional rather than nominal, with clear responsibilities, regular contact and a direct channel for their concerns to reach national leadership.
Welfare of Organizers: Making organizer welfare a standing item of his office.
“The people who give the party their time between elections are too often the last the party remembers,” he said.
“An organizer who gives the party his time should not be the last person the party remembers,” he stressed.
Readiness for 2028: Strengthening mobilization towards victory in the 2028 general elections and creating greater opportunities for grassroots contribution to the party and national development.
Mr Anthony said stronger coordination between the grassroots and national leadership is essential to building a more effective and inclusive party, and will in the coming weeks set out his specific commitments on how he intends to implement them.
