Controlled Food Suppliers Association Issues Two-Week Ultimatum To Government

Food suppliers for the Free Senior High School programme say they are on the verge of collapse over GH¢250 million in unpaid arrears.
The Controlled Food Suppliers Association (CFSA) says government has failed to pay for food supplied to SHSs across the country in the 2024/2025 academic year, despite routing the supplies through the National Food Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO) and the Ghana Commodity Exchange (GCX).
At a press conference on Wednesday, President of the Association, Danso Twumasi, said the debt has been reconciled but remains unpaid.
From Loans To Pressure
Secretary of the Association, Cornelius Koku Logo, said members financed the supplies with bank loans and farm produce bought on credit.
He said attempts to get paid since April have failed.
“We engaged NAFCO and GCX in April, wrote to the Education Ministry in July, and later to the Finance Ministry. Till now, no clear payment plan,” he said on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News.
He said many suppliers cannot repay loans, cannot pay farmers, and are facing health and financial stress.
Ultimatum
The CFSA is demanding urgent engagement from the Presidency, Ministries of Education and Finance, NAFCO and GCX, and a feasible, time-bound payment schedule.
“The outstanding amounts have already been reconciled and are not in dispute. We therefore call for an immediate and transparent engagement,” Mr Twumasi said.
The Association says it will announce its next action if government fails to begin negotiations within 14 days.
