Former Minister of Local Government, Dr. Akwasi Oppong-Fosu, has joined the race for the National Chairman position of the National Democratic Congress.

He announced his intention on Thursday, with a pledge to strengthen the party’s internal structures and promote cohesion among members.
Dr. Oppong-Fosu, who currently chairs the Board of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre, said the NDC needs durable systems that do not depend on individuals.
He outlined his vision on three key pillars: restoration of the party’s founding values, renewal of mindset and purpose, and resetting of structures to meet current realities.
According to him, the party must move beyond personality politics and build institutions that will outlast any leader.
He stressed that principles such as probity, accountability and social justice must not remain slogans but must guide how the party organises, leads and rewards service.
The former minister said his focus will be to empower branches and constituencies, deepen participation, and ensure every member feels valued.
If elected, he said he will build a united, disciplined and inclusive NDC that remains connected to its grassroots and ready for the future.
