Government is set to take delivery of new buses in the next four months to augment public transport services across the country.
ln an interview, Danniella Mawusi Ntow Sarpong, The Chief Fire Officer, said, the new vehicles will initially be deployed to five regions, including the Western and Northern enclosures, with other regions to follow soon.
She assured that measures have been put in place to ensure safety in the transport industry and that all dynamics for safe operations are being addressed.
According to her, government has been supportive of the sector, and the intervention announced by the sector minister is aimed at protecting commuters and improving services.
On the fate of grounded buses, he said vehicles currently out of commission will not be abandoned but will be repaired and put back on the road to supplement the new ones expected.
She said while the current fleet is inadequate and more buses are needed, the repaired ones will still be useful in boosting operations.
