A shocking case of alleged extrajudicial killing has sent shockwaves through the Mamprugu community, with the Mamprugu Youth Association accusing the Ghana Police Service of summarily executing Abdul-Aziz Iddrisu, a 33-year-old youth from Mamprugu.
According to a press statement issued by the association, Aziz was arrested on February 17, 2026, alongside his siblings in Bolgatanga, Upper East Region, in connection with the fatal attack on police officers at Karimenga barrier.
While his siblings were granted bail, Aziz was transferred to Accra, where he reportedly remains incommunicado.
The association alleges that despite efforts by his lawyer, Martin Kpebu, to locate him, the police have remained tight-lipped about his whereabouts.
It was only after a meeting with the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) that the devastating news was revealed: Aziz had been shot dead by the police.
The Mamprugu Youth Association is outraged, calling the killing a “national disgrace” and “state-sponsored ethnic cleansing”.
They are demanding answers from the government and the police hierarchy, questioning the circumstances surrounding Aziz’s death and calling for accountability.
The incident has sparked concerns about the safety of Mamprugu youth and the alleged targeting of the community by state security agencies.
The association is urging Ghanaians to stand up against impunity and demand justice for Aziz and other victims of state abuse.
The Ghana Police Service has yet to issue an official statement on the matter, fueling further outrage and suspicion among the Mamprugu community and human rights advocates.
