Accra, Ghana – Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) is drowning in debt, with customer arrears hitting GH¢2 billion.
This crippling financial strain is squeezing investments in infrastructure upgrades, leaving consumers without reliable water supply.
Managing Director Adam Mutawakilu reveals GWCL produces 220 million gallons daily, but over half (114 million gallons) is lost. Only 106 million gallons are billed.
Accra faces a weekly deficit of 73 million gallons against a demand of 210 million gallons.
Technical and commercial losses are the main causes. GWCL’s Revenue Enhancement Teams aim to recover debts and improve service delivery.
