Farmers’ Day donations pour in: Agribusinesses show support

By Mavis Paintsil, Accra

Accra, Ghana – As Ghana gears up to celebrate its 41st National Farmers’ Day, the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) has received a boost from key agribusiness stakeholders.

GLICO, AgriSeed Limited, and Yara Ghana have made significant donations to support the event.

At a ceremony in Accra, the Managing Director of GLICO, Mr. Andrew Achampong-Kyei, handed over a GH¢50,000 cheque and a GH¢1 million public liability insurance cover for all attendees.

“We urge Ghanaians to prioritize personal insurance, as many insure their properties but neglect their own wellbeing,” he said.

AgriSeed Limited, represented by its Head of Import and Export, Mr. Gideon Armah, donated GH¢8,000 and 100 branded T-shirts to support the event. Yara Ghana Limited, through its Country Manager, Ms. Theresa Randolph, contributed products worth GH¢650,000 and GH¢20,000 cash.

Minister of Food and Agriculture, Mr. Eric Opoku, received the donations, praising the agribusinesses for their commitment to Ghana’s agricultural sector.

He described GLICO’s insurance package as “unprecedented and timely” and urged continued collaboration to drive growth in the sector.

The donations are part of the companies’ efforts to support farmers and promote agricultural development in Ghana.

This year’s theme, “Feed Ghana, Eat Ghana, Secure Ghana,” resonates with the mission of the supporting companies.
