ADB Posts GH¢367m Profit in 2025, Reverses Years of Losses

Agricultural Development Bank has staged a major comeback, swinging from a GH¢35 million profit in 2024 to GH¢367.29 million after tax in 2025.

The bank attributed the turnaround in its 2025 Annual Report to tighter operational controls, stronger revenue streams, and the impact of its recapitalisation programme backed by government.

Stronger Balance Sheet
Total assets grew 22.6% to about GH¢17.9 billion, up from GH¢14.6 billion in 2024. The jump was driven by higher investment securities and better liquidity management.

Operating income nearly doubled to GH¢1.75 billion from GH¢1.0 billion a year earlier. Interest income hit GH¢2.09 billion, while fees and commissions rose to roughly GH¢284 million.

The capital position also reversed sharply. Capital Adequacy Ratio improved to 27.17% from negative 3.15% in 2024, following government’s “deposit for shares” injection. Shareholders’ equity climbed to about GH¢2.48 billion, which ADB said reflected restored solvency and stronger financial resilience.

Profitability Metrics Jump
Earnings per share rose to 0.22 pesewas from 0.02 pesewas. Return on equity jumped to 15% from 3%, and return on assets moved up to 2% from near zero.

The bank transferred GH¢183.65 million to its Statutory Reserve, lifting the cumulative balance to GH¢383.19 million at year-end, compared to GH¢199.56 million in 2024.

Asset Quality Still Under Watch
Despite the profit surge, ADB said non-performing loans remain a concern. The NPL ratio eased to 70.5% in 2025 from 75% in 2024 as recovery efforts continued.

The bank kept its workforce steady at 1,473 staff and maintained 89 branches and agencies nationwide. The Board did not recommend a dividend for 2025, choosing instead to reinvest earnings.

ADB described 2025 as a “pivotal step” in its recovery, saying the results position it for sustained growth and long-term value creation.
