The race for the NPP National Youth Organizer position has taken a spiritual turn.
Aspirant Chris Lloyd, who officially filed his nomination papers on Friday, August 29, says he is on a rescue mission sanctioned by his forefathers.
Speaking to party supporters after submitting his forms at the party’s head office, Lloyd described his candidature as unusual, pointing out that it is rare for a Deputy National Organiser to step down to contest for Youth Organizer.
He explained that his lineage is deeply rooted in the NPP’s traditions, stating that his grandfather coined the party’s famous chant “Kukurudu! Eee shie, Rado! Rado!”
“This is a spiritual assignment. My ancestors have asked me to come and save the NPP,” he declared.
Lloyd also made reference to the history of the Odododiodio constituency in NPP politics, saying the first person from the area to contest a national position brought victory to the party, and as the second to do so, he intends to repeat that feat.
He will face competition from several other contenders who have also picked forms, including Clement Opoku Gyamfi, Abanga Fuseini Yakubu, Michael Osei Boateng, Vera Oye Bram-Larbi and Kumi Alfred Ababio.
The party is set to begin vetting of all national executive aspirants from August 31.
