The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has resolved the bottlenecks causing delays in the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) reimbursements to healthcare providers, according to the Bono Regional Director of the NHIA, Isaac Badu Amponsah.
Speaking to journalists after a special education and free registration exercise in Sunyani and Berekum, Mr. Amponsah said the government had restored the dignity of the scheme by clearing all outstanding debts owed to health facilities and ensuring timely reimbursements.
Prompt Payment of Claims
Mr. Amponsah attributed the prompt payment of claims to the government’s commitment to providing quality healthcare to Ghanaians.
“The reset agenda under the NHIA is on course. Now, NHIS is working.
The government is paying claims promptly and has also cleared all the outstanding debt owed to health facilities. It’s unprecedented,” he said.
Registration Drive
The NHIA’s “NHIS Storm” project aims to register traders and educate them on the need to enroll in the scheme.
The staff of the Bono Regional office visited the Nana Bosoma Market in Sunyani and Berekum market to register traders and provide education on the scheme
Public Education
The NHIA is also educating the public on the “MahamaCares” initiative, which will cater to chronic diseases not covered under the NHIS.
The initiative is part of the government’s efforts to bridge the gaps in healthcare financing.
Call to Action
The NHIA has warned healthcare providers against charging unapproved fees and urged the public to report any illegalities to the authority.
The public is encouraged to register for the NHIS to benefit from the scheme.
