NAC launches 5th anniversary, calls for value system overhaul

By Mavis Paintsil, Accra

The New African Concept (NAC) has kicked off its 5th anniversary celebrations with a call for Africans to reassess their value systems, arguing that the continent’s development challenges stem from within.

At a media launch, Executive Director Dr. Joshua Oppong-Sarfo stated that external factors like slavery and colonialism are often blamed for Africa’s problems, but the real issue lies in the continent’s internal value structure.

“The root cause of Ghana and Africa’s problem is our value systems, which is our internal self,” Dr. Oppong-Sarfo said.

“It’s like treating symptoms without addressing the disease itself.”

NAC’s anniversary theme is “Transformation Unleashed: The Next Wave Begins”.

The organisation plans several programmes, including a book launch on February 22 and an Independence Lecture on March 6, 2026, at the UGMC Auditorium in Accra.

Dr. Oppong-Sarfo also commented on the church’s role in national development, cautioning against sweeping criticism but noting gaps in linking personal salvation to societal transformation.

NAC aims to empower Africans to take ownership of their development, culture, identity, and economy, promoting value-based approaches over external models.
