The Ghanaian government is considering extending the Gun Amnesty Programme, which allows citizens to surrender unregistered firearms without prosecution, after receiving appeals from stakeholders.
The programme, launched in December, is set to expire on January 15.
Deputy Interior Minister Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi stated that the government is taking calls for an extension seriously, but the current deadline remains in force for now.
He warned that anyone found with illegal firearms after the amnesty period will face the full force of the law.
