Former Chief of Staff, Frema Osei Opare, has blamed the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) inability to resolve internal conflicts and reconcile after internal contests for its electoral losses.
Speaking at the signing of a peace pact by five presidential aspirants ahead of the party’s 2026 presidential primaries, Madam Osei Opare emphasized that internal disputes have consistently weakened the party’s electoral fortunes.
“In my work as the Chairperson of the party’s Conflict Resolution Committee from 2010 to 2020, it became clear that our electoral losses, both in parliamentary and presidential elections, can be largely linked to the many internal conflicts within the party and our inability to heal faster,” she said.
Madam Osei Opare urged the aspirants to take responsibility for the conduct of their supporters and called for unity after the primaries, stressing that it is crucial to the party’s future.
She also appealed to the eventual winner to show inclusiveness and make all contestants and their supporters an integral part of the campaign.
The peace pact signing ceremony was attended by five presidential aspirants, including Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Ken Ohene Agyapong, Dr Bryan Acheampong, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, and Kwabena Agyei Agyepong.
The NPP presidential primaries are scheduled for January 31, 2026.
