Over 2,500 vulnerable residents in Accra and Kumasi have received food packages from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ Light the World Christmas food-drive, bringing festive cheer to families facing economic hardship.
The initiative, held under the theme “Experience His Light – Jesus Christ is the Light of the World”, aimed to spread hope, compassion, and joy during the Christmas season.
Beneficiaries received essential food items such as rice, oil, spaghetti, chicken, and tomatoes.
In Accra, the food-drive was hosted at the Ga Mantse Palace in Kaneshie, with over 1,200 families receiving packages prepared by young missionaries from across Africa.
President of the Accra Ghana Missionary Training Centre, Benoit Duquette, said the event reflected the Church’s global commitment to service.
“The Light the World initiative is a worldwide effort, and we partner with organizations to support those in need,” Duquette said. “We hope the spirit of giving continues throughout the year.”
The Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, praised the Church for bringing the initiative to the Ga State, saying it demonstrated shared values of unity and humanity.
In Kumasi, over 1,300 residents benefited from similar food packages, with Elder Kofi G. Sosu, an Area Seventy of the Church, saying the donations symbolized love, compassion, and solidarity.
The Church’s humanitarian work in Ghana includes clean water, education, and health initiatives. Beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the support, saying it would help them celebrate Christmas.
